Delhi HJS Examination 2026 Selection Process

Selection for the Delhi Higher Judicial Service Examination 2026 is conducted in three successive stages: Preliminary Examination (Objective Type), Mains Examination (Written), and Viva-Voce. Marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are of qualifying nature only and are not counted in the final merit list.

Stage 1 – Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)

The Preliminary Examination is tentatively scheduled for 26 July 2026 (Sunday) from 11:00 AM to 01:00 PM, carrying 150 marks with 150 MCQs (1 mark each) and 25% negative marking (0.25 marks per wrong answer), to be completed in 2 hours. The number of candidates admitted to the Mains Examination shall not exceed twenty times the total number of advertised vacancies per category.

Preliminary Exam Syllabus

The syllabus covers General Knowledge, Current Affairs, English Language, Constitution of India, Indian Evidence Act / Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, CPC, CrPC / BNSS, IPC / BNS, Indian Contract Act, Transfer of Property Act, Arbitration & Conciliation Act, Negotiable Instruments Act, Motor Vehicles Act, POCSO Act, IT Act, Trade Marks Act, Copyright Act, Patents Act, and several other Acts as mentioned in the notification.

Stage 2 – Mains Examination (Written)

The Mains Examination comprises four papers with a total of 750 marks as detailed below.

Minimum qualifying marks for Mains are 45% in each paper and 50% in aggregate for General category candidates; 40% per paper and 45% in aggregate for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

Stage 3 – Viva-Voce

The Viva-Voce carries 250 marks. General category candidates must secure minimum 50% marks and reserved category (SC/ST/PwD) candidates must secure minimum 45% marks in Viva-Voce. Candidates shortlisted for Viva-Voce shall not exceed three times the number of advertised vacancies per category. The final merit list is prepared based on aggregate marks of Mains Examination and Viva-Voce combined.

Candidates declared successful in the Mains Examination must submit one set of self-attested copies of the following documents to the Joint Registrar [Examination (Judicial)], High Court of Delhi within five days of declaration of the result. Candidates in Government/Judicial service must also inform their parent office of their application and produce an NOC if called for Viva-Voce.

• Income Tax Return Acknowledgements and Computation/Statement of Accounts
• No Objection Certificate (original) from employer if in Government/Judicial service
• Original Caste Certificate (for SC/ST candidates) issued by prescribed authority
• Original Disability Certificate (for PwD candidates) issued by Government Hospital/Medical Board

Common Mistakes to Avoid in Delhi Higher Judicial Service Exam 2026
